Ernő Erdős (born April 18th 1984) is a Hungarian-American businessman best known as the owner of the Atlético Las Vegas franchise.

Born in Budapest, Erdős started his business career in the US, where he founded Playa Partners, a private equity firm with investments in real estate, biotech, entertainment, and artificial intelligence (AI).

Early life and education

Ernő Erdős was born on April 18th 1984 in Budapest, Hungary. An only child, both of Erdős’ parents were killed in a car accident in 1997, leaving the young Erdős in the care of a maternal aunt.

After graduating high school, Erdős enrolled in the International Business School (IBS) but did not graduate with a degree. Instead, he moved to Baltimore, Maryland, United States (US) and took a low-level management job at LSC Shipping.

Business career

Playa Partners

In 2002, Erdős moved to Tucson, Arizona, where he worked as a warehouse picker for several months before taking a job as a salesperson at Sunshine Amusements, a manufacturer of casino game machines. After being fired from Sunshine in late 2003, Erdős took his client list and started Casino Supply International (CSI), a supplier and reseller of gambling machines. Initially targeting the growing casino market on Native American reservations, CSI quickly expanded to incorporate its own manufacturing. [1] In 2007, Erdős sold his stake in CSI to MGM Mirage for ¥182 million.

Cash-rich at the outset of the financial crisis of 2007-2008, Erdős founded Playa Partners, a private equity firm focused primarily on acquiring underwater real estate and distressed businesses. By the end of the zero interest-rate policy (ZIRP) era in 2022, Playa Partners was estimated to have over ¥6.1 trillion in total assets under management.  [2]

Diversification

Over the course of the 2020s, Playa Partners continued to expand out of real estate and into a wide net of biotech, entertainment, and artificial intelligence (AI) investments. In 2027, Erdős leveraged his stake in Playa Partners as well as other assets in a deal to acquire a large stake in DeepBet. Playa Partners purchased a large tranche of DeepBet shares offered during its initial public offering (IPO), which gave Erdős a de facto controlling interest in the company. Erdős divested from DeepBet in 2032, claiming that he saw more growth potential at the time in companies with tangible assets.

Atlético Las Vegas

In 2030, Erdős acquired the franchise rights to a new Major League Soccer (MLS) team in Las Vegas. Named Atlético Las Vegas, the team began play in the 2031 season. Other members of the ownership group included Thornton Greenblatt, Arkady Golitsyn, and the Public Investment Fund (PIF). [3]
